After 18 years, one of Disney’s classic nighttime shows is finally coming to an end. IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth fireworks spectacular is set to make its final appearance next year at Disney World. A new evening show will replace IllumiNations — which debuted at Epcot on Oct. 1, 1999.
The retelling of Earth’s origins from creation to community is performed nightly in the center of Epcot’s 11 country pavilions. What exactly will Epcot’s new nighttime adventure be? No one knows, but it’s likely that IllumiNation’s successor will keep to the roots of Disney’s technology- and science-centric theme park, which grew out of Walt’s plans for an idyllic futuristic city.
It’s all but guaranteed that a combination of amazing features will honor Epcot’s innovative origins in its design.
In terms of technology, we find it no small coincidence that Disney performed a drone show over a similar-size body of water for Christmas two years back.
